Source Luxury reviews the Porsche 911 GT2 RS

The distinctive shape of the Porsche 911 has been grunting around our roads since the early 60s. But, the burly growl of this 700 horsepower monster has got ear drums perforating and pulses racing across the motoring world.

We first witnessed the GT2 shape back in 2011 and the 2018 revival is being hailed as one of the best 911’s ever made. As well as the face melting horsepower, the new version boasts new aerodynamics, competition ready chassis and rear axle steering.

The GT2 RS has bridged the gap between track terminator and street stroller and will have every 911 enthusiast foaming at the mouth. Not only is it capable of obliterating lap times, but the fact you can drive it to and from the track makes it more than just a toy. Porsche say that this streamlined stunner will rocket from 0-62 mph in 2.9 seconds on its way to an eye watering top speed of 212 mph.

RS stands for Racing Sport, which is the handy work of GT division boss Andreas Preuninger and his team. As well as stiffening the suspension and drivetrain mounts, the spring and damper rates have been supercharged. Ultra high-performance tires have been supplied by Michelin and a set of extrovert aerodynamic aids have been fitted. A strict carbon-fibre diet helps keep the weight at less than 3,300 pounds but another squeeze of the wallet buys a 918-inspired Weissach pack that sheds another 45-plus pounds. The pack includes composite sway bars, a titanium rollcage, magnesium wheels, and a thinner roof skin. While some nutcases may delete air conditioning, navigation and radio, those inclined to a more idle existence are invited to pay extra for electrically adjustable comfort seats. Drivers can enjoy a ‘GT2-specific’ Sport steering wheel, equipped with column mounted shift paddles as standard to thunder through the seven-speed gearbox.

The 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS made its official world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England. Pricing starts at a cool £222,000, while the weight shedding Weissach package can be added for £23,500.

This car has been on the lips of Porsche fans (and car fans, in general) for some time, and for good reason. The 911 is often placed on a pedestal, but this particular model has created a pedestal of its very own. Porsche officials state that the 911 GT2 RS is ‘the fastest and most powerful street-legal 911 ever’.

The best 911 ever created? Quite possibly…..
